Lexington ISD
Gifted and Talented Service Screening
January 4, 2017
Lexington ISD will soon be screening for our Gifted and Talented program. The screening process is the first step to identify students for the GT program. Once the student meets the screening criteria, other assessments will be administered or compiled and data will be placed on a Student Profile to determine eligibility. The Gifted and Talented Selection Committee will review the results of all data and placement will be determined, based upon district criteria.
The screening process involves several criteria. Assessments may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Achievement tests
- Intelligence tests
- Behavioral checklists completed by teachers and parents
- Teacher nominations based on classroom observations
- Student/Parent conferences
- Student work/products, if available
The State defines GT as: “Gifted and talented student means a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who exhibits high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area, possesses an unusual capacity for leadership, or excels in a specific academic field”. Education Code 29.121
If you wish to have your child screened for the GT program, please request a GIFTED AND TALENTED NOMINATION PACKET from your child’s campus office and RETURN BY JANUARY 31, 2017.
Failure to return forms by the deadline will remove your child from the screening process.
This process will begin when the nomination period closes. You will be notified of the results when all data is complete.
Respectfully,
