Due to the passing of House Bill 2610 by the 84th Texas Legislature, all Lexington ISD schools will be dismissed for summer break on May 25, 2016, instead of the original dismissal date of June 3rd.
The Bill, which did not become effective until after LISD’s 2015-16 calendar was approved and distributed, now requires that all districts provide at least 75,600 minutes of instruction, rather than the 180 days that was previously required. The new amount equals 420 minutes of instructional time per day for 180 days. Since all of LISD’s students attend classes for 455 minutes a day, the district has been banking 35 excess minutes each day than required by the new bill, therefore allowing for the early release date.
On Monday, January 18th, at their regular board meeting, the LISD Board of Trustees approved amending the current school calendar to reflect the change. Please note that the date and time for the LHS graduation ceremony will not change. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 4th, at 8:00 PM at Eagle Stadium.
